      Tall Ships in Boston

This weekend the Boston Harbor will host a number of events celebrating Boston Harborfest, War of 1812 bicentennial celebrations, Navy Week and OpSail Boston. Between June 29th and July 6th Boston Harbor will be flooded with Tall Ships, you know, the kind of boats Johnny Depp struts all over in Pirates of the Caribbean.

Over the next week, Boston will house some of the the most impressive ships from all over the globe. Here are a few of the ships you will see docked in the Boston Harbor:

      • The Cisne Branco, hailing from its home port of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, built in 1998 is one of the newest participating ships. Although young in age, the full-rigged Cisne Branco is no baby when it comes to size, amassing an overall length of 290 feet.
      • The Dewaruci, the 191-foot vessel is on display courtesy of the Indonesian navy. Used as a sail training vessel, the Dewaruci, built as a sail training vessel, is the only Barquentine owned and operated by the Indonesian navy. A Barquentine is a ship with three or more masts.
      • The Gloria, a native of Cartagena, Colombia, sitting at over 257 feet long is the official flagship and sail-training ship of the Colombian Navy.
      • The Guayas, at 257 feet long is visiting from Guayaquil, Ecuador where it trains cadets from the Ecuadorian Naval Superior School at Guayaquil.

Here are a few places you can relax in the sun with a great view of the ships are the Charlestown Navy Yard, Castle Island, the dock outside the ICA, and Christopher Columbus park in the North End.

Whether you're feeling adventuresome and want to check out a mock sea battle, try your luck at finding a mate cruising into the sunset onboard the Tall Ships Singles Cruise, or get into that patriotic spirit in preparation for July 4th by listening to the U.S. Coastguard Band, the Waterfront is the place to be this weekend.
