The biggest (all-white) dinner event to hit Boston this summer

Dîner en Blanc in the Cour Carrée at the Louvre in Paris

Next month one of the most opulent, world renowned events will be making a stop in Boston. On August 16th, the international organization Dîner en Blanc will be hosting its Boston debut.

What began as an all white dinner party organized by François Pasquier with a guest list of 100 of his closest friends twenty-four years ago, has become one of the most anticipated worldwide phenomenons of the most elegant caliber. The annual Parisian Dîner en Blanc held last month at the palace of Versailles had a total of 12,000 guests.  Perhaps what makes the event so alluring is that right from the get go it emanates such a sense of mystique.

Minutes before the dinner is set to take place, guests lucky enough to have received an invitation, convene at different meeting points around the city to follow Dîner en Blanc organizers to the event's secret location. Thousands of people, all dressed head-to-toe in white, embark for an evening of elegance and tasteful fun at a "chic picnic" held at one of the city's most picturesque public spaces.

Initial invitations are available by connections only but anyone interested in taking part can sign up on the wait list in hopes of receiving their own invitation. Guests can bring either their own meals or choose to purchase

from a variety of wine and food packages available online to be delivered on site at the event. In true picnic style, guests provide their own white picnic tables (or white tablecloths) chairs and table settings. Don't be surprised if you see a candelabra or two as many guests choose to enhance the picnics aesthetic adding touches of classic French debonair to their tables.

Entertainment is provided throughout dinner, so rest assured there will never be a dull moment all throughout the event, the inaugural year featuring sounds by band C'est Si Bon. After everyone's hunger has been quelled and dinner has concluded, guests throw their garbage away in white trash bags and head home making sure the location is left just as it was before. Leaving nothing behind, there is no sign of what has just taken place. If you're interested in taking part, be sure to sign up on their waiting list at http://boston.dinerenblanc.info/waiting.php
