Newton is the 11th largest city in Massachusetts, bordered to the east by Boston. It is located approximately 7 miles from downtown Boston. Rather than having a single city center, Newton is a patchwork of 13 villages: Auburndale, Chestnut Hill (home to Boston College), Newton Centre, Newton Corner, Newton Highlands, Newton Lower Falls, Newton Upper Falls, Newtonville, Nonantum, Oak Hill, Thompsonville, Waban, and West Newton. The city is also rich in arts and culture, featuring two symphony orchestras, a large state-of-the-art public library, and resident theatre groups. The city is easily accessible by the MBTA’s Commuter Rail and bus service, as well as the MBTA’s Green Line D and B Branches. Newton’s safe and quiet neighborhoods full of single and multifamily houses make it a very desirable community for those who commute to Boston or work in Newton’s businesses and industries.
